We normally try to run one or two open days a year when just about anyone can come and have a go at shooting. Dates will be published when they have been agreed. (Don't worry if you can't make the published dates. Give us a ring anyway and we'll fit you in on a normal club night.)

British target shooters have competed in all but three of the Olympic Games since 1894. Malcolm Cooper MBE won gold medals in the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Games. Michael Gault of England achieved 8 Gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in the last three Commonwealth Games. East Grinstead has a number of members who regularly shoot in County and National competitions and some have gone on to win medals in international competitions.

So what’s it all about?

Target shooting is sport for all ages, where male and female compete on equal terms. It is also one of the few sports where all members of the famliy from grandparents, through parents to children can compete on equal terms. Paper targets are used at 25, 50 and 100 yards (or metres) on both indoor and outdoor ranges. It requires muscle control, concentration and, as your ability improves the judgement of wind when shooting outdoors. Like golf, it has a handicapping system that allows all levels of shooters to compete for and win prizes on equal terms.
